How best to describe St. Andrews? The number of accolades just roll off your tongue; 'The Home of Golf,' due to the founding of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in 1754. 'Scotland's oldest University' first established in 1410, and most recently, 'where William met Kate.'
St. Andrews is a meeting of town and gown where history, culture and tradition deeply entwine and are celebrated throughout the year. It is the meeting of old and new, past and present, that ultimately makes St. Andrews so hard to define but all the more rewarding for those willing to take the plunge and explores its past.
What to expect
Many people expect St. Andrews to be a destination for golf lovers only but this is far from the truth. The 11 courses are a great attraction but many people enjoy living in St. Andrews because of the historic buildings, the scenic beaches, the arts and cultural scene and the overall busy atmosphere.
